Organizational Background

JAYEECHI is formed by an interdisciplinary team of Guajiros and indigenous people belonging to the Wayuu community.

Since the beginning, Jayeechi has been focused on promoting identity and cultural heritage, making social problems visible, and leading community theatre processes with an aesthetic language.

The projects have been developed in areas that are hard to get to in the Upper, Middle, and Lower Guajira, as well as in areas that are vulnerable in urban areas. To promote peaceful coexistence.

Jayeechi's work consists of two primary thematic areas and three programmatic areas.

One of Jayeechi's primary themes is the millennia-old traditions of the Wayuu indigenous culture. The other is the social and environmental issues of the country and the region.

Through its works and artistic projects, Jayeechi aims to develop a critical awareness of the current state of affairs of the indigenous nations and other current dynamics relevant to the collective welfare.

Its programmatic areas of action include:

1. The creation and staging of plays of the highest quality.

2. Conducting research and workshops to inform the creation of plays and building capacity (training of trainers), whose members are responsible for sharing their experiences with children, youth, and adults, and creating spaces for social transformation. And

3. The periodic implementation of educational projects that promote art and creativity, healthy coexistence and artistic training and performance as pathways to social development.

Alternative solutions to the growing social, mental, and coexistence problems caused by drug addiction, racial and gender prejudices, corruption, and individualism, which affect both the department of La Guajira and the national territory.
